CamAssist Cost and Value
I understand how you must feel regarding the price of the CamAssist, especially when you compare it to the price of a
camcorder. There are a number of reasons why it costs as much
as it does.
The main reason is volume. CamAssist is a new invention
and is a paradigm shift in thinking. People are slow to
change and they have to get used to the idea that it may make
more sense to hang a camcorder than to stand it on a tripod.
Meanwhile production levels remain low. If CamAssists were
produced at the same levels that camcorders and tripods are
produced, then the price would be much lower. It would be
made entirely of plastic, would be made in another country,
and would not have a lifetime warrantee.
Meanwhile, however, I need to use manufacturing
techniques that make sense for the volume demanded.
The frame is made of steel rod (1/4"). All
joints are TIG welded 360 degrees. The plastic and aluminum
parts are machined to very close tolerances (to within a few
thousandths of inches). The frame is painted black and baked
in a furnace for hardness and durability. All aluminum parts
are black anodized. All of the labor is done in the United
States. Everything is heavy duty and precise. The list goes
on.
Also consider value and money saved. If you are using
this to tape tennis lessons, those lessons will be more
effective and fewer lessons will be required and/or you will
become a better player, faster. If you are using CamAssist to
tape matches, you will get better information on just how you
are playing and you will be in a better position to fix the
problems and win more matches as a result. Consider
this....if you are taping matches and lessons, and video
taping them makes them more effective, and you are paying $50
per lesson, then if your faster improvement saves you only 2
lessons then you have saved the cost of the CamAssist. CamAssist allows you to use your camcorder more often and in
more ways and there is value in that.
Don't forget the fun! It is just plain fun to
watch you, your friends and your opponents play this great
game. Don't be embarrassed about taping matches. It's your
game, it's your camcorder, and your life. Besides, your
friends will want to see the tape when you are done. Count on
it!
This is probably more of an answer than you wanted, but I
am trying to emphasize the value as well as the cost.
In any case, I appreciate your comments and I look
forward to hearing from you soon.
